Is choosing a drug from a menu enough?
As of September 2026, the group representing state medical boards says picking a drug from a menu alone is not proper care.
Describe what you want help with. Ask which options are worth discussing and why.
Is every online form a problem?
No. A form can start a conversation. Ask whether the health professional can come back for more detail.
National medical-board guidance says a form with a fixed set of questions cannot be the only basis for treatment. A form whose questions change with your answers can be part of the assessment. The health professional must have a way to ask you further questions and gather enough information for proper care.
As of September 2026, state rules on form-based care differ, so this guidance is not a nationwide law.
What about blood tests?
Ask what a proposed test would help answer. Ask who explains the result and whether the test costs extra.
Under medical-board guidance, the health professional must carry out needed tests, arrange for those tests or refer you to someone able to perform them.
